Study in Turkey

 Turkey, a country well know for the beauty of its nature, cities, history, culture, food and people. A country that people flock from all over the world to enjoy the colours, tastes and feelings it can inspire in one's soul. This country does not only offer so much beauty to be enjoyed, but also a very strong and established higher education system. Turkey stands as the 39th country in the world when it comes to strength of higher education. It has a number of elite public universities that are listed among the top 500 universities in the world and which offer education for a very low price compared to the standard and quality of education they offer. Examples of these universities are:

1. Bogazici University

 Ranked between 491-500 globally and 9th in the EECA region (Europe). It was established in 1863 as Robert College and was the first American university to be established outside the US. Bogaziçi Üniversitesi is located in Istanbul, close to the Bosphorus strait and the historic castle of Rumelihisar, which flanks the eastern boundary of the university’s South Campus. The language of instruction is English and the university maintains strong links to the American higher education system.

2. Istanbul Technical University

 Istanbul Technical University is one of the world’s oldest technical universities with a long history of 250 years.

 ITU is a reputable institution known for its history, science, technology, art and sport achievements over the period of 242 years. It is a research centre connecting the past to the present and designing projects for the future. ITU, that has presented numerous scientific and technological developments, was the first to introduce novelties and unique achievements, provides academic learning being one of the oldest and most prominent technical universities in the world.

ITU has 360 laboratories and 13 research centers. With 23 engineering programs accredited by ABET Accreditation, ITU is the world’s leader among universities. Students participating in International Exchange Graduate Programs complete a part of their education at one of the partner universities in the USA and receive a dual diploma. ITU offers a number of double major programs and is the top university in Turkey providing a broad range of Erasmus exchange programs with more than 900 international agreements.

3. Hacettepe University 

 Hacettepe University is a major state university in Turkey based on Ankara. Based on academic performance, it is ranked number 1 in Turkey in the area of medicine and between 251-300 around the world in this same discipline. 

 The University has two main campuses. The first campus is located in the old town of Ankara and hosts the Medical Centre, and the second one, Beytepe Campus is 13 km (8 mi) from the city centre. The Beytepe Campus covers 6,000,000 m2 (600 ha; 1,483 acres) of green land and woodland, and hosts the faculties of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Law, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Letters, and Science. In addition to these two main campuses, the School of Social Work is located at Keçiören, and the Turkish State Conservatory in Ankara, affiliated with the University as of 1982, is located at the Beşevler Campus.

 4. Middle East Technical University
  
  Based in Turkish capital Ankara, Middle East Technical University (METU) is ranked 14th in the 2016 EECA rankings. It has about 31,000 students, many of whom are exchange students attending for either a semester or a year. Because demand is so high, METU only accepts students from the top 1.5% of its 1.5 million yearly applicants. As at Bilkent University, the medium of instruction is English.

 To become admitted in a university in Turkey, all these papers or some of them are required to be submitted:

  • International Student Application Form 
  • High School Diploma: Thanawiyya Amma/SAT 1 (Scholastic Aptitude Test)/Abitur/French Baccalaureate/IGCSE/International Baccalaureate (IB). In case the high school diploma grades or subjects are not sufficient for admission, an entrance exam called the YOS exam can be taken. In case the applicant passes this exam, he gains admission.
  • Language Proficiency Score (The required score from language exams will still depend on the school to which applicant applies. Students who are not able to take one of the international language tests (TOEFL, IELTS etc.) may take the university's proficiency test upon arrival. Those who fail the proficiency test must take the Language program of the university before beginning the academic study. This preparatory year is not included in the total number of years of study required for graduation.   • An Essay (Write a short essay explaining why you want to attend this school, what course of study you want to pursue, and your career goals.)
  • Application Fee (The fee for each application ranges between USD35 and 100. This pays for processing your application and is non-refundable,      even if you aren’t admitted to the school.)
