Educational Bargains
Note: this post is mainly for people who are able to travel and study abroad, in many cases people might not be able to do that for family reasons, financial reasons and others. Some people prefer to stay at home because this is where they thrive the most, and this is where they feel at their optimum. This is totally understood, but if you have no problems with taking the adventure of studying abroad, hopefully you will find the idea in this post beneficial.
To start with, what is an educational bargain? Aside from it being a term that I have just created now, an educational bargain can be the idea of spending the least amount of money on an education that can give the highest prospects possible. Now imagine someone decides he will study in Norway, the best country in the world to live in when it comes to work/life balance, facilities and salaries. Studying in Norway costs nothing, no money at all. The only thing is that living there is expensive, and would cost around 12,000 dollars per year. This is still less or same per year when you compare it to the most highly respected and ranked university we have here in Egypt (AUC). But how can studying in Norway be better to some people? Here are some reasons:
1) Prospects: for some people, the prospect of finding a job in a country like Norway and continuing to live there can be very important. Starting salaries can go up as high as 5000 dollars per month, which means that in a matter of less than two years a person who studied in Norway would make more money than what has been spent on his education. A great return on investment. The country itself is, as I said, the most livable country in the world.
2) Experience: for others, the experience itself is very important. The experience of independence in particular, and the prospects of traveling. Norway is a country with the most abnormally beautiful natural scenes that you can see anywhere (at least in my opinion), from mountains to northern lights to ocean. The amount of activities that can be done is huge, and the idea that you can travel to any country in Europe without a need of a visa and for the lowest prices possible makes it even better. The experience itself of living in a multicultural environment can be priceless.
3) Quality: the quality and accreditations of the university is important to many people, thus studying in a country like Norway would assure this.
And the list goes on, even if someone would come back to Egypt after studying abroad it can still be worth it for some people.
Norway was only an example, and one of the best examples it is. Germany, Austria and Switzerland are other countries with very high standard of living where you can study with no tuition fees. In the case of Germany for example, living expenses can cost around 9000 dollars per year. Same for Austria and a bit more for Switzerland. In these countries, it is very common to work a student job while studying to save around 70% of the living expenses. In a previous post I have written in some detail about studying in Germany. I will write further post about Norway, Austria and Switzerland so stay tuned. Hope I have helped! Best of luck to you all.
